Permalink Reply by jake Riedel on February 7, 2011 at 5:12am if you doubt the size of fish in this great body of water we are blessed with...... you probablly dont understand that this lake is a class 1A fishing lake the best thing about the big lake, is that weekend warrior fisherman are intimidated by this lake, I was at first! I thought we would have no chance ,there is so much water to explore.This was not the case we went out and had a slow first day not many bites but the boat about 25yards from us was smokin um he had a fish what seemed like every 5 minutes I think we caught 3 or 4 fish our first day we sertainly didnt slay them like the old timer next to us........
the following day NOw we to were slaying them. you ask what did we do diferently we asked the old timer the previous night what he was using. I didnt think he would tell us but he did two tiny but necessary adjustments were made changed the color of the jig head and used a 5 inch gulp instead of 4 inch gulp now we were catching some big solid salmon and trout any way lake michigan is a great fishery not many people fish however poeple come to this lake from all over the world to possibly catch a world record fish there arent many lakes in the world you can Have an opportunity at world record fish especiallly wallys trout salmon muskys ect... bottem line if we would have not gotten that tip about the jig color and gulp we would not have caught 70% of the fish we did . so talk to the fisherman you see aroud it pays off some times this time it payed off bigtime thanks for the pointers
ps. i try to use the lightest tackle possible if i could use my bluegill rod i would
* medium action rod
*8-10 lb florocarbon (very important)
*lead color jig (very important)
